Service Description

September 21- December 14 (13 sessions) Rising Hawks is a weekly year-long program that provides youth ages 7-13 with an exciting, playful, and meaningful way to engage with the natural world and to grow as individuals. With both the wild and cultivated sides of the Nurture in Nature Community Farm available for exploration, the cultural feeling of belonging supporting us, and a dedicated mentor guiding the way, we will go on curiosity-led explorations where animal tracks, edible plants, or secret groves wait to be discovered. Active play will fill our days with embodied fun while also learning social skills, self-awareness, and sustainability. Rising Hawks uses an 8-shields model to guide its curriculum and inspire learning and connection to self, nature, and community. Our days begin with song and gratitude, are filled with games, crafts, and adventures, and end with sharing our stories of the day. As a weekly program, Rising Hawks will give youth a deeper immersion into nature connection and cultural mentoring, sustainable lifestyle choices, making more projects and ultimately finding more connection to self, others, and nature. Each day will be a new adventure on the land: -Playing games, -Hearing nature-based stories, -Learning about our food systems, -Tracking animals, -Learning knife safety and carving tools, -Natural fibrecrafts: weaving, cordage, felting etc. -Tanning hides, -Responsible harvesting of wild food and medicine, -Tending farm animals, -Garden care and harvest, -Making ancestral hunting tools, -Journaling nature mysteries -Problem solving and creativity -Adventure, reverence, and wonder -Family involvement and community events COST The Rising Hawks exchange is $58 per session for the remainder of the semester.
